Why are you excited to be part of the M3T project?
“I’m looking forward to the skills and knowledge that I will acquire in order to make myself and my students more successful. I want to be a master teacher that helps shape students that master mathematics. I am so excited to further my growth in year 2 with additional fellows.”
Why do you teach mathematics?
“Students (and adults) flinch at the word mathematics. My goal in teaching this subject is to make students feel more confident and comfortable with the material. By building a positive relationship with each of my students and encouraging their success, I hope to help them reach their full mathematical potential.”
What are you focused on improving about mathematics teaching?
“One of my biggest goals is to increase math discourse in my room by using cooperative learning groups. I always focus on groups and teaming, but don’t have a set structure that ensures that each member is contributing and improving discourse. I hope that I can find strategies that help my students grow comfortable with mathematics in my room and beyond.”
Final Thoughts:
“M3T has been an amazing opportunity to grow as a teacher and teacher leader. Each meeting leaves me feeling empowered to make changes in my classroom, my county, and our state. This group contains some of the best teachers to make this happen in WV.”
